Evaluating recovery strategies for the disruptions in liner shipping networks: a resilience approach

Purpose Since the start of current century, world at large has experienced uncertainties as a result climate change, terrorism threats and increasing economic upheaval. These create non-classical risks for global seaborne container trade liner shipping networks (LSNs). The purpose this paper is to establish novel risk-based resilience framework measure effectiveness different recovery strategies disruptions in LSNs quantitative manner. Design/methodology/approach Based on loss triangle model, an indicator resilience–cost ratio designed performance during recovery. Four are proposed test rationality feasibility developed aiding decision-making from perspective. Findings analysis results reveal that superiorities vary depending both structures specific requirements Moreover, optimizing sequence ports being recovered will improve overall efficiency investigated LSN. Research limitations/implications As exploratory research trying enrich evaluation complex network perspective, only two attributes (e.g. port scare economy) considered stage when estimating time needed fully recover whole In future research, more industry may be identified incorporated into model further extend its ability application scopes.
